Terraforming Mars is a deep strategic engine-building game where players represent competing corporations working together (but also competing) to make Mars habitable. The goal is to raise global temperature, oxygen levels, and ocean coverage until the planet can sustain human life. Players achieve this by playing project cards that represent technologies, infrastructure, and scientific advancements.

The core gameplay revolves around resource management and synergistic card combinations. Each corporation begins with unique abilities and strategic advantages, encouraging different playstyles. As the game progresses, players build increasingly powerful engines that generate resources, allowing for more complex and impactful turns.

There is a strong long-term planning element, as early decisions can significantly shape the efficiency and direction of your engine. Timing is also important, as many rewards are based on milestones and shared objectives that can be claimed by only one player.

Designed by Jacob Fryxelius and published by FryxGames, Terraforming Mars is widely regarded as one of the most important modern heavy eurogames. It has received numerous expansions and remains a staple of strategic board gaming.
