Munchkin

Munchkin is a light-hearted card game that parodies traditional fantasy role-playing games. Players take on the role of adventurers battling monsters, collecting treasure, and racing to reach level ten to win the game. The tone is intentionally humorous, with cards filled with jokes, puns, and references to RPG tropes.

Gameplay revolves around drawing cards, equipping items, and engaging in combat with monsters. However, much of the interaction comes from other players interfering—boosting monsters, stealing items, or otherwise sabotaging progress. This creates a chaotic and highly social experience.

Unlike more strategic games, Munchkin leans heavily into unpredictability and player interaction. Alliances can form and break quickly, and players must navigate both the game mechanics and the personalities at the table.

Designed by Steve Jackson and published by Steve Jackson Games, Munchkin has become a cult favourite, spawning numerous themed versions and expansions.
